Main entrance to the American Museum of Natural History

You can spot a statue of Theodore Roosevelt on horseback at the front of the entrance.

  • Best for: Walking, public transportation, Central Park
  • This entrance is easily accessible from Central Park. All you have to do is cross the Naturalists’ Gate at the Park and walk towards the museum. 
  • Subway: B & C lines stop at the 81st Street station, located across the street from the main entrance.
  • Accessibility: This entrance is not wheelchair accessible.

Rose Center entrance to AMNH

Location: 81st Street, Central Park West, NY | ​Find on Maps

  • Best for: Elevator access, wheelchair accessibility
  • This entrance opens up into the Hayden Sphere and gives you access to the non-ticketed exhibits within the ​Rose Center for Earth and Space such as the Cosmic Pathway and Scales of the Universe, for an eventful start to your AMNH journey.
  • Subway: B & C lines stop at the 81st Street station, a brisk 5 to 10 minute walk from this entrance.
  • Accessibility: This entrance is wheelchair accessible and has easy elevator access to all the floors across AMNH.

Gilder Center entrance to AMNH

Location: 415 Columbus Avenue, 79th Street, NY | ​Find on Maps

  • Best for: Wheelchair accessibility, easy access to the ​Butterfly Vivarium, rush hours, and the atrium.
  • This entrance blends with the Theodore Roosevelt Park that AMNH is a part of, and the flowing design, coupled with the cave-like structure, along with a five-story atrium, floods the building with natural daylight, giving visitors a vibrant start to their trip. 
  • Subway: B & C lines stop at the 81st Street station, a 5-minute walk from this entrance.
  • Accessibility: This entrance is wheelchair accessible and tends to be the fastest way to enter the museum during peak hours.

Members-only entrance to AMNH

Location: Lower Level, 200 Central Park West, NY | ​Find on Maps

  • Best for: Members, priority access
  • This entrance is easily accessible from Central Park. Members and their guests can enjoy priority access to AMNH by using this entrance located under the grand staircase.
