The Rockettes & the Christmas Spectacular

The Rockettes are an iconic precision dance troupe, known for their synchronized choreography and timeless high kicks, and Radio City Music Hall has been their home since its opening. Every winter, they star in the Christmas Spectacular, a live performance with music, 3D effects, and Santa Claus himself. The show blends classic routines with flair, making it one of NYC’s most beloved seasonal events.

Major award shows: Grammys, Tonys & more

Radio City has hosted some of entertainment’s most prestigious nights, including multiple Grammys, Tonys, MTV VMAs, and Daytime Emmys. The location, historic significance, and grandeur of the venue make it a favorite for televised award ceremonies.

Live shows

Radio City has presented a wide range of live shows over the years, from Jeopardy! to Wheel of Fortune and America’s Got Talent, along with live tapings of many specials.

Concerts by world-famous artists

The stage has welcomed legendary artists including Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, and Adele. With acoustics tuned for both vocals and instruments, concerts here are an intimate experience despite the venue’s size. Many artists have filmed live albums or specials at Radio City as well.

Theater performances & musicals

Though not a Broadway house, Radio City has hosted special theatrical events like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Legs, and Brighton Beach Memoirs. The large stage and capacity make it ideal for family-friendly and seasonal productions. It blends musical theater charm with concert-scale energy.

Movie premieres & screenings

Radio City has been a popular destination for major film debuts. Classics like King Kong (1933), Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), and The Lion King (1994) all debuted here. The screen is one of the largest indoor movie screens in the world, offering a cinematic experience like no other.

Sports events & specials

While primarily known for entertainment, Radio City has also staged major sports events. It hosted the NFL Draft close to 30 times, boxing matches, wrestling, and multiple other sports competitions.

Architecture & design of the Radio City Music Hall

Radio City Music Hall interior with stage and seating, New York City.

Radio City Music Hall is an Art Deco masterpiece, renowned for its grand scale, geometric elegance, and theatrical sophistication. The theater’s facade wraps around the corner of Sixth Avenue and 50th Street, crowned with neon signs and a sweeping marquee. Above the entrance, artist Hildreth Meiere’s bronze and enamel plaques depict music, dance, and drama that symbolize Radio City’s cultural mission.

As you step inside, you see Donald Deskey’s modern design in the interiors featuring chrome, aluminum, glass, and bakelite in sleek forms. The grand foyer’s four-story ceiling, vast gold-framed mirrors, Ezra Winter’s mural, and chandelier lighting create a majestic feel as it opens into the auditorium.

The theater's crown jewel is its vast proscenium arch that is over 60 feet high, framing the Great Stage. The stage has one of the most advanced hydraulic stage systems ever built, including rotating platforms and a movable orchestra pit. The “northern lights” ceiling is made of eight radiant, arching bands and fills the auditorium in a warm glow.

From the plush, spacious seating and hidden acoustic grilles to the detailed lounge mosaics and backstage scene shops, every element of Radio City Music Hall’s architecture reflects innovation, drama, and a dedication to spectacle that has endured since its opening in 1932.

The ferry ride and self guided tours of the SOL and Ellis Island were fun. Disappointed that the ticket did not include the pedestal. I thought when I read before booking included the pedestal. The Edge was great yet windy and cold.

It was wonderful from the moment I walked in, the logistics were fantastic. Everything was very well organized; you get on the elevator and it has sounds that make you feel like you're floating up to the 92nd floor in an instant. The view of NYC is spectacular! And playing with the balloons is simply amazing. I would definitely do it a thousand times over! Guaranteed fun!
