How to reach Wollman Rink and The Rink at Rockefeller Center are easily accessible by subway and on foot, depending on your start location, with options for rideshare/cab services as well. Walking or public transportation is highly recommended to navigate around NYC to avoid parking hassles and traffic congestion. The Rink at American Dream is located in New Jersey, a short drive from New York City, but NJ Transit stops at Secaucus Junction, with frequent trains departing from Port Authority. You can take an Uber/Lyft from the station to American Dream.
Follow rink staff instructions: Always listen to onsite staff and follow posted signage, as they help manage safety and flow on and off the ice.
Skate in the correct direction: Most rinks have a designated skating direction; keep with the flow to avoid collisions.
No fast skating or tricks in crowded sessions: To keep everyone safe, refrain from speed skating, sharp turns, or jumps unless permitted.
Respect capacity limits: When the rink reaches skating capacity, new entries might be paused for safety.
Food and drinks stay off the ice: Eating or drinking on the rink is not allowed to prevent spills and falls.
Avoid chain-skating or any roughhousing: Keep other skaters in mind when you’re on the rink, and refrain from rash behavior or chain-skating to ensure maximum safety and maintain skate etiquette.
Wear skates that fit securely: Properly fitted skates improve balance and reduce the risk of ankle injuries.
Use railings when needed: Beginners should stay near the edges until comfortable moving away from the barrier.
Keep your hands away from the ice: If you fall, stand up without placing your palms flat on the ice to avoid being stepped on.
Warm up before skating: Stretching helps prevent muscle strains, especially in colder temperatures.
Stay aware of your surroundings: Watch for sudden stops or beginner skaters who may lose balance unexpectedly.
Maintain a safe distance: Keep an arm’s length of distance between you and your neighboring skaters to avoid any accidents or injuries.
Thermal layers: Wear comfortable, breathable layers that keep you warm without restricting movement.
Gloves and mittens: These keep your hands warm and help protect your skin if you take a fall.
Long socks: Thicker socks help prevent rubbing or blistering inside your skates.
A hat or ear warmers: Ice skating outdoors can get chilly, especially in the wind.
Water-resistant outerwear: Snowfall or light mist can make clothing damp, so outer layers that repel moisture are ideal.
📌 Visitor tips
Book tickets online in advance: Popular rinks often sell out, especially during weekends and holidays.
Arrive 15-20 minutes early: You’ll need time to lace up, store belongings, and get comfortable before your session begins.
Check the rink's weather policy: Outdoor rinks may pause or reschedule sessions during heavy rain or snow.
Bring your own socks: Rentals don’t include socks, and wearing your own ensures comfort and hygiene.
Keep essentials safe: Phones, cards, and small items are safer when zipped away instead of left in open lockers.
